INSURANCE TUTORIALMedical Payments and Personal Injury Protection CoveragesMedical Payments - this coverage is a type of accident insurance that applies only to the insured driver and passengers in the insured vehicle. Medical payments coverage applies regardless of who is at fault. It provides for reimbursement for medical and funeral expenses caused by bodily injury. Also, medical payments coverage would pay medical expenses if the insured person or any family member were injured in an auto accident as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection - is a broader form of medical payments coverage that, in addition to paying medical and funeral expenses, provides benefits for work loss or loss of earnings, expenses related to replacement of essential services that are normally performed by the injured person and survivor loss benefits to compensate for the death of a covered auto accident victim. Like medical protection coverage, personal injury protection coverage applies to the insured driver and passengers that are injured in the insured vehicle, regardless of who is at fault. In no-fault states, personal injury protection coverage would be a required coverage. |
