Community Milestones

  • In 2006, GMAC hosted more than 1,500 SmartEdge events and seminars in cities across the country.
  • GMAC’s SmartEdge Book Allowance Program helped offset the cost of textbooks for post-high school education. GMAC gave a total of $400,000 in book allowances, helping about 800 recipients.
  • Last year, more than 48,000 hours were donated by GMAC employees to charitable causes.
  • GMAC contributed more than $600,000 to Habitat for Humanity to help build homes in Atlanta; Dallas; Detroit; Houston; Macomb, Mich.; Phoenix; St. Louis; and Minneapolis.

For nearly a decade, GMAC has shared the Habitat for Humanity vision of homeownership, believing that everyone deserves a decent place to call home. In 2007, GMAC will sponsor the construction of eight homes in the United States and Mexico. Members from every part of the GMAC family will donate their time to build homes with deserving families.

We strongly believe in consumer education, particularly in the area of financial literacy. In 2005, GMAC launched SmartEdge by GMAC to educate consumers in the areas of credit, budgeting and choices available when financing or leasing a vehicle.

GMAC is the title sponsor of the GMAC Bowl, the NCAA football game held in Mobile, Alabama. The GMAC Bowl is more than just a football game—it encompasses various educational and mentoring activities to make a positive impact on young people’s lives.

GMAC employees throughout the world volunteer their time and talent in the communities where they live and work. Our commitment to empower people and strengthen communities is made possible by following the hearts of our employees.
